Windward HighwayWith support from the EU, transport infrastructure has been upgraded as a physical spine around which agriculture, economic diversification and tourism are hinged.
Under the road rehabilitation programme executed with resources from SFAs 1999, 2000 & 2001 approximating to EUR 15 million, 5 sections of the road on the Windward side of island were rehabilitated from Richmond Hill on the outskirt of capital Kingstown to Fancy in the North.
These critical sections of road were rehabilitated during the period 2005 – 2009 and include the Windward Highway – Kingstown to Diamond, Diamond to Georgetown, Rabacca to Sandy Bay, Sandy bay to Fancy and the Vigie Highway.
A number of bridges and culverts were repaired/replaced and widened along these routes.
